Fender FSR '72 RI Thinline Telecaster 2002 (MIM)

2002 Fender FSR "Car Colors" '72 RI Thinline Telecaster - Shell Pink

From time to time, Fender also presents special versions of theie guitars outside of the Custom Shop and produces them in limited numbers.

This is called Fender FSR - Fender Factory Special Run. In 2002 there was such an FSR under the name "Car Colors" and Thinline Telecasters, in the colors Shell Pink, Daphne Blue, Candy Apple Red, Lake Placid Blue and Surf Green were produced in limited numbers in Ensenada, Mexico. here we are looking at one of these rare guitars. Some say 100 of each colour were made, but I've seen numbers as small as 55 and even 30. I guess no-one really knows for sure outside Fender. It is often claimed that these were conceived and supervised by Jay Black, painted by Fender USA and then assembled in Mexico.

In addition to the spectacular shell pink finish, the star of this Telecaster is clearly its acoustically resonant, clear tone. Even when played without an amp, the guitar resonates incredibly strongly and the two Fender wide range humbuckers translate this into a fat but still fender-like twangy tone. It's best to listen to a demo, then you'll know what I mean!

The guitar is in very good condition, plays wonderfully along the entire neck. So again, this guitar is from a "Fender Special Run" in 2002 that features a very cool, rare Shell Pink finish. This example looks, plays, and sounds fabulous. Low action, fantastic tone. Works and sounds awesome! These are getting difficult to find!

One of Fender's most innovative Telecasters, the 72 Thinline combined Fender twang with the light weight and big tone of a semi hollow body. A great combo that has been popular among tone savvy players ever since. Here's one in an ultra hard to find limited edition color! This makes easily some of the coolest looking Teles money can buy! Nice attention to detail and vintage feel on these. The body is semi hollow and made of ash for resonant tones. The 25.5 inch scale maple neck features a 7.25 inch radius maple fingerboard with 21 vintage frets. Dual Seth Lover designed humbuckers dish out killer tones. A string through bridge and F tuners keep it all rock solid.

The finish is a cool Shell Pink and is set off by a white pearloid pickguard. A truly great guitar that is light in weight and heavy in tone. The control is completely typical for a Tele - volume, aperture, three-level gear. So don't ask what the guitar can do, but rather what you can do with it. It is up to your skills and feeling. This instrument is actually only surprising because of its complete banality: it was not made in the States, but in Ensenada, Mexico.

This Tele plays and sounds great. The neck is straight, the frets are as good as new and the action is fine. The pickups coupled with the semi hollow body make for a lively, full tone. A great guitar. This is a nice almost unused example in EXCELENT condition.

No Tele collection is complete without a Thinline. Great tone and feel for the bucks. Here's a nice used example in a super rare color.
